F.B.I.’s Urgent Request: Reboot Your Router to Stop Russia-Linked Malware
Router Security: At least 500,000 routers in at least 54 countries had been infected by the malware, which the F.B.I. and cybersecurity researchers are calling VPNFilter.
Router security is suddenly a major concern around the world, among the affected networking equipment it found during its research were devices from manufacturers including Linksys, MikroTik, Netgear and TP-Link.
At INC Tech we recommend and deploy enterprise grade routers which are not susceptible to this exploit.
The following routers are affected:
Mikrotik RouterOS for Cloud Core Routers: Versions 1016, 1036, and 1072
QNAP TS439 Pro
Other QNAP NAS devices running QTS software
Per the NY Times, “The malware has a destructive capability that can render an infected device unusable,” it said, “which can be triggered on individual victim machines or en masse, and has the potential of cutting off internet access for hundreds of thousands of victims worldwide.”
If you have questions about your router security or your network security we are always available to discuss the situation.
